Mortality of A-bomb Survivors in Nagasaki and Hiroshima

چکیده
INTRODUCTION In 1945, two atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the first time in human history. Since 1945, many studies (1,2,3,4) have been performed on the effects of the atomic bomb radiation, for example, the physical damage and medical studies of the atomic bomb survivors and so on. In 1972, the Scientific Data Center for the Atomic Bomb Disaster (renamed as the Division of Scientific Data Registry, Atomic Bomb Disease Institute in 1997) was founded in Nagasaki University to analyze the radiation effects on atomic bomb survivors. Information about A-bomb survivors is generated in many organizations. We have collected information from the City Office, Health Management center and other organizations. We have constructed an A-bomb survivor’s Database in 1968 (5).

Cytogenetic Instabilities in Atomic Bomb-Related Acute Myelocytic Leukemia Cells and in Hematopoietic Cells from Healthy Atomic Bomb Survivors
On August 6 and 9, 1945, nearly 65 years ago, atomic bombs (ABs) were dropped on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The explosive powers of these two bombs are said to be equal about 12.5 kilotons of TNT for Hiroshima bomb and 22 kilotons for Nagasaki bomb. The dissipation of energy is believed to have been in the ratios consisting of 50% of bomb blast, 35% of thermal rays and 15% of ...
متن کاملNeutron relative biological effectiveness in Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors: a critical review
The calculated risk of cancer in humans due to radiation exposure is based primarily on long-term follow-up studies, e.g. the life-span study (LSS) on atomic bomb (A-bomb) survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since A-bomb radiation consists of a mixture of γ-rays and neutrons, it is essential that the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of neutrons is adequately evaluated if a study is to s...

Background: The earlier Atomic Bomb explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and three worth mentioning nuclear accidents - detonation at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Chernobyl nuclear fallout and an accident at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant have made us more worried about the secure exploitation of nuclear energy. The central focus of this paper is to review radiation-mediated health e...
